Taras Matla is Director and Chief Curator of the University of Maryland Art Gallery, where he leads the institution’s artistic vision, exhibition programming, and stewardship of its permanent collection. A career art museum administrator, he is also the founder and head of SIGHT.CITE.SITE., a consultancy providing curatorial strategy, collections management insight, and exhibition development advice to artists, institutions, and private clients. 


Earlier in his career, Mr. Matla held roles at globally recognized institutions including The J. Paul Getty Trust and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where he contributed to major curatorial and collections initiatives. His practice is grounded in exploring how context influences interpretation, drawing upon more than two decades of experience at the intersection of visual culture, institutional leadership, and critical inquiry.


He holds degrees from California State University, Long Beach and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
